Elections for the Lord Mayor of Bayreuth
The Lord Mayor of Bayreuth was directly elected every six years until 2012, and since then the term of office has been eight years.
Mayor election 1958
Hans Walter Wild (SPD) was elected to succeed Hans Rollwagen (SPD) . The opposing candidate was Fritz Meyer from the alliance BP , FDP and non-partisan Free Voters Group (ÜFW).
Mayor election 1964
Hans Walter Wild (SPD) was confirmed in office with 97% of the votes. There were no opposing candidates.
Mayor election 1970
Hans Walter Wild (SPD) was confirmed in office with 98% of the votes. There were no opposing candidates.
Mayor election 1976
Hans Walter Wild (SPD) was confirmed in office with 58% of the votes. The opposing candidate was Ortwin Lowack (CSU)
Mayor election 1982
Hans Walter Wild (SPD) was confirmed in office with 55% of the votes. The opposing candidate was Heinrich Dumproff (CSU)
Mayor election in 1988
Dieter Mronz (SPD) was elected to succeed Hans Walter Wild (SPD) . Opposing candidates were Ortwin Lowack (CSU) and Werner Kolb (Greens).
Mayor election 1994
Dieter Mronz (SPD) was confirmed in office with 68% of the votes. Opposing candidates were Gabriele Tröger-Weiß (CSU) and Sigrid Engelbrecht (Greens).
Mayor election 2000
Dieter Mronz (SPD) was confirmed in office with 63% of the votes.

Mayor election 2006
Michael Hohl (CSU) was elected as the successor to Lord Mayor Dieter Mronz (SPD), who is no longer running . For the first time the CSU captured the Bayreuth town hall.
