Michael Hohl (born December 3, 1959 in Lahnstein ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CSU ). From May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2012, he was Lord Mayor of Bayreuth .

Life

Michael Hohl completed an apprenticeship in banking after graduating from high school. He completed his basic military service in Veitshöchheim and Koblenz before he began studying law with additional training in economics at the University of Bayreuth in 1981 . After a course at the London School of Economics on English law and a traineeship in Bayreuth and Bamberg , he did a doctorate in Bayreuth while working as a research assistant; his dissertation dealt with the topic "Legal Problems of the Nomination of Competitive Athletes for Competitions" . From 1992 until his election as Mayor of Bayreuth in 2006, Hohl worked as a lawyer in a larger Bayreuth law firm specializing in commercial, banking and inheritance law. During this time, Hohl volunteered in professional organizations. He was chairman of the Bayreuth lawyers' association and board member and from 2002 to 2006 president of the Bamberg Bar Association .

In 2003 he was elected to the district assembly of Upper Franconia and was re-elected in 2008. His parliamentary group elected him as its chairman in his second term. On March 26, 2006, Dr. Michael Hohl was elected Lord Mayor of Bayreuth. In the mayor election on March 11, 2012, Hohl received 43.6% of the votes in the first ballot and was the first Mayor of Bayreuth in post-war history to have a runoff. His opponent Brigitte Merk-Erbe ( Bayreuth Community ), who received 38.3% in the first ballot and was then also supported by the SPD and the Greens , won the runoff election on March 25, 2012 and dissolved Hohl on May 1, 2012 as Lord Mayor of Bayreuth. During his tenure as Lord Mayor, Hohl was managing director of the Richard Wagner Foundation in Bayreuth , a member of the shareholders' meeting and the administrative board of Bayreuther Festspiele GmbH and chairman of the board of the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. After being voted out as Lord Mayor of Bayreuth, he planned to withdraw from politics and pursued an economic career. Meanwhile he shows more political activities (candidacy as a city councilor, candidacy as a member of the state parliament)

Michael Hohl has been with the administrative judge Hannelore Hohl, b. Guy who is married and has two children.

Tasks and activities

  • During his tenure, Hohl set up a youth parliament and introduced regular children's consultation hours.
  • For the first time in 2010 there was a mobile citizens' meeting in Bayreuth, at which the mayor and citizens of the city were on the road by bike.
  • With Bayreuth Marketing und Tourismus GmbH, founded in November 2009 on the initiative of Hohl, Bayreuth aims to provide new and stronger impulses in the competition between cities for people and companies.
  • In 2009 the city of Bayreuth was able to assert itself in the competition for the State Horticultural Show 2016 after two unsuccessful attempts in the past .
