Thomas Ebersberger

Thomas Ebersberger (born May 27, 1957 in Bayreuth ) is a German lawyer and politician . He has been Lord Mayor of Bayreuth since May 1, 2020. Before that, he had been second mayor since 2002.

Life

Ebersberger attended elementary school (Graserschule) and the Graf-Münster-Gymnasium in Bayreuth and completed his law studies at the University of Bayreuth . Ebersberg is a self-employed lawyer for family law operates and as a business lawyer and a partner in a law firm. Since 1993 he has also been a representative of Bayreuth Lawyers on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association.

Ebersberger is married and has three grown sons.

Political career

Thomas Ebersberger joined the student union in 1973 and became a member of the Junge Union in 1977 . During his studies he also joined the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS). Since 1982 he has been a member of the Christian Social Union (CSU). Just two years later, in 1984, he was elected to the city council as Bayreuth's youngest city councilor to date. He held this office until 1990 and again from 1996. From 1996 to 2002 he was chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bayreuth city council. In the same year he was elected second mayor of the city. As a city councilor, Thomas Ebersberger is a member of the main and finance, environmental and transport committees. He is part of the “New Control Models / Administrative Organization” commission and the Bayreuth 2020 Urban Development Commission. He is also a member of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Bayreuth Holding GmbH, Hohlmühle Bayreuth GmbH and GEWOG. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, he ran as the CSU candidate for the office of Lord Mayor.
