Wahlert is a locality in the mountainous city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

Wahlert lies in the east of the living quarters Cronenberg-Mitte in the district Cronenberg at an altitude of 210  m above sea level. NHN on the altitude of the Jacobsberg . State road  427 runs through the village .

To the west the terrain slopes down to the valley of the Wupper , north to the valley of the Herichhauser Bach . A Bach Wahlert of the same name rises near the place. Wahlert is surrounded by the extensive forest areas of the Burgholz State Forest . A parking lot serves as a starting point for hikes in the state forest. The Wuppertal circular route crosses the state road at Wahlert.

history

The location was mentioned in a document in 1598 as In der Wahlert . According to the Elberfeld camp register, there is said to have been an " old relocated iron mine " that was already closed at that time.

To the west, ravines of an old road lead from the Kohlfurther bridge to Cronenberg through the area, which has been replaced by the provincial road Elberfeld – Hitdorf on the route of today's state road.
