The Elberfeld office was an administrative unit of the Duchy of Berg . It consisted of the parishes of Elberfeld and Cronenberg . The office administered by Elberfeld Castle was created around 1427 and existed until 1806.

The main location and administrative seat was Elberfeld Castle in Freedom Elberfeld, which was elevated to a town from 1610 and developed into one of the first and most important industrial and economic centers in West Germany under Berg rule.
