The Wai-iti River is a river in the Tasman District on the South Island of New Zealand .

geography

The river rises on the northwest flank of the Gordon Range in Mount Richmond Forest Park and initially flows around 10 km in a northerly direction, and then turns away for around 30 km in a northeast direction. It passes the towns of Belgrove , Foxhill , Wai-iti , Spring Grove and flows northwest past Wakefield and Brightwater , before joining west of Richmond with the Wairoa River to form the Waimea River . This flows south of Rabbit Island into Tasman Bay .

The New Zealand State Highway 6 follows a large part of its central reaches of the river .
