The Waioeka River is a 60 km long river in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island .
geography
The river rises in the Huiarau Ranges , flows north from there, grazes the city of Opotiki to the west, and then flows into the Pacific Ocean with the tributary of the Otara River almost two kilometers later . The Waioeka River drains an area of 825 km 2 .
use
In the alluvial land of the river, the Opotiki Flats , the river's water is used to irrigate the fields. In the upper course of the river, the river is used for kayaking and fishing for brown trout and rainbow trout . In the lower course of the river, in contrast to its neighboring river, the Otara River, the river is a bit muddy, but the biological water quality is not worse.

To the west of the estuary is a protected area where the Australian bittern , pygmy moorhen , banded rail , stilt , fern climber and Maori plover can be found.
