Waiting for Columbus is the first live album by the American rock band Little Feat . It was recorded in 1977 and released in February 1978.

General

Little Feat built a solid reputation among fans and critics over the course of their band career. With each studio album, they became more commercially successful. The group did not decide to make a live album until the end of their existence, when the disputes between Lowell George and Bill Payne over the musical development were already noticeable. Waiting for Columbus has been recorded at four concerts at the Rainbow Theater in London and three concerts in the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University in Washington, DC . At these concerts enough material was recorded for a triple LP, but only a double LP was released due to cost reasons. The original recordings were only available as a double LP. Parts of the material were only published in the 2002 edition.

Criticism

  • All About Jazz put Waiting for Columbus at # 2 on their 10 best rock live albums.
  • Little Feat really gets down to some hard-driving boogie rock that captures the essence of the band. Billboard, 1978
(Little Feat goes to work with boogie rock, which captures the essence of the band.)
  • It's still a pleasure to hear a great band run through their best songs… but as the double-album Waiting for Columbus proves, Little Feat in its decline was still pretty great. All Music Guide Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
(It's still a pleasure to hear a great band play their best songs ... but as the double album Waiting for Columbus proves, Little Feat was still pretty great on the downside.)
