Walburga Külz

Walburga Külz (born September 22, 1921 in Mittelberg ; † October 15, 2002 in Erbach ) was a German ceramist .

Life

Walburga Külz learned her trade from 1940 to 1944 in Otto Lindig's ceramics workshop in Dornburg / Saale , and at times she also worked as a volunteer in the Fürstenberg porcelain factory . She then studied painting on ceramics with Siegfried Möller at the Nordic Art Academy in Bremen . After her master craftsman examination, which she passed in Weimar in 1946, she worked again briefly for Otto Lindig. In 1947 she took over the management of the Margaretenhöhe ceramics workshop in Essen . In 1953 she set up her own workshop in Erbach im Rheingau, where she worked until 1988. From 1968 onwards she mainly produced non-purpose ceramics and small sculptures. In 1973 she was awarded the Hessian State Prize for German Crafts .

On the occasion of her 80th birthday, an exhibition about her work took place in the Museum of Applied Art in Gera and then in the Marburg University Museum for Art and Cultural History .
