Factory owner's house

While Schönengrund almost had its current size and shape around 1800, the forest only developed afterwards. Since the last third of the 19th century, the two villages have formed an economic and social unit. The municipalities of Neckertal and Schönengrund jointly carry out various public tasks in the areas of infrastructure and schools. The Schönengründler have been attending secondary school in St. Peterzell since 1868 and are also taught at the primary level according to the St. Gallen curriculum . In 1973, the primary school Schönengrund-Wald association was founded with a joint school in Schönengrund.

In addition to traditional dairy and cattle farming, weaving became an increasingly important branch of business in the 17th century , and in the last third of the 19th century it was supplemented by embroidery . Most of the factories were located in the forest and not in Schönengrund. The bleaching plant in Wald was the largest employer in Doppeldorf from around 1830 to 1975.
