The Waldbühne Otternhagen is an open-air theater in the village of Otternhagen , a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge / Hanover region . The stage has been used since 1970, initially as the Otternhagen home stage and since 1974 under the current name of Waldbühne Otternhagen . The open-air stage has been operated by the non-profit association "Waldbühne Otternhagen eV" since 2003
history
In 1967 the Deister-Leine-Zeitung reported on the high number of visitors to the surrounding open-air theaters and raised the question of when Neustadt would get its own open-air theater. In Otternhagen, the chairman of the Berggarten Musikverein, Friedrich Poppe, dealt with the topic and expanded the Musikverein to include a theater group that included 15 amateur actors. The search for a director ended with the Neustadt teacher Herbert Stoepper, who held this position for over 40 years.
On August 1, 1970, the 15 actors around Renate Büsing celebrated the premiere of "Mr. Peter Sequence - or the summer night in the country" in front of 350 spectators. Until 2001 there was a performance on the Waldbühne every year. In 2001 no theater was played due to the lack of actors. However, from 2002 there was a change in the club. From this point on, two plays were performed per year, a comedic adult play and a child / family play with younger actors who mostly performed fairy tales or children's stories. In 2020 the Waldbühne will celebrate the 73rd and 74th theater production of the association, which now has over 200 members. Since 2016, three productions have been played in the summer season.

Association work
The Waldbühne Otternhagen eV association is a member of the Association of German Open-Air Theaters -Region North- based in Hamm / North Rhine-Westphalia . According to the association's statutes, each member stage is regularly elected (depending on the number of member stages) with two other stages as an advisory stage for 3 years on the board of the association. The Waldbühne Otternhagen held this position until the association's general meeting in October 2014.
