Waldemar Köppe

Waldemar Köppe (born August 9, 1952 in Bitterfeld ) is a former German football player who was active between 1971 and 1976 for Halleschen FC Chemie in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Köppe is a multiple GDR junior and young national player.

Athletic career

After Waldemar Köppe became GDR champion in 1969 with the junior team of Hallesches FC Chemie (HFC), he was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team in autumn that year . With her he played 25 junior international matches until 1971, in which he scored six goals as a striker. Then he moved to the GDR youth national team , for which he completed fourteen international matches. There he also played in attack, but only scored one goal.

The HFC used Köppe at the age of 17 in the 1969/70 season in his second team, which played in the second-rate GDR league . In the 30 point games, Köppe was used twelve times and scored two goals. In the 1970/71 season he played ten of 26 point games and scored three goals. For the 1971/72 season , the HFC named Köppe for the first time for its league squad. He was used by coach Walter Schmidt in ten league games, six times as a striker from the start. In the match of the 15th match day between HFC and  BSG Sachsenring Zwickau (2-0) he scored his first league goal. In his 18 league games in 1972/73 , Köppe was in the attack twelve times in the starting line-up, but without scoring a goal. The Halleers had to relegate at the end of the season, so Köppe found himself in the GDR league in 1973/74 . With 15 appearances in 22 point games and participation in all eight games in the promotion round with a goal, Köppe was involved in the immediate return to the league. In the following two league seasons, Köppe was used a total of 41 times. Although the 1975/76 season turned out to be the most successful season for Köppe with 23 league appearances and three goals, it was also his last season for Halleschen FC Chemie, for which he had played 69 league games within four seasons and scored five goals .

Although the HFC reported at the end of August 1976 that Köppe had ended competitive sport, it appeared in the course of the 1976/77 season at GDR league club BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau . After playing eleven of 22 league games there, he was a regular at Schkopauer for the next three seasons with a total of 62 league games and four goals. When BSG Chemie Buna was promoted to the league in 1980/81 , the 29-year-old Köppe was only in four league games. He was eliminated in the course of the season and then did not return to higher-class football.
