Waldemar Oehlke

Waldemar Oehlke (born April 29, 1879 in Krückwald (locality in the Gdingen district of Klein Katz ), West Prussia province , † July 14, 1949 in Göttingen ) was a German German scholar and literary historian .

Life

Oehlke studied since the summer semester 1900 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and received his doctorate in 1904 under Gustav Roethe on " Bettina von Arnim's letter novels", in which he a. a. compared the letters she actually wrote to Goethe with those published in her epistolary novels. Between 1904 and 1907 he worked as a private tutor and private tutor and then went to school in Gdansk, where he became a senior teacher at the Royal High School in 1909. In 1911 he married the educator Marie Auguste Wilhelmine Kuhfuß (called "Mimi") and in 1914 moved to the Royal Wilhelmsgymnasium in Berlin. With his two-volume work Lessing und seine Zeit , he was able to habilitate at the TH Berlin Berlin in 1919 . Here he taught first as a private lecturer, from 1920 as an associate honorary professor , then as an honorary professor of literary history. Further stations in his scientific career led him in the 1920s a. a. to Beijing, Tokyo and New York. After 1945 he was an honorary honorary professor. D. active at the University of Göttingen.

Sometimes using the pseudonym Waldemar Thymian, he also published his own works of fiction. Oehlke processed extensive trips in several travel reports.
