Waldemar Philippi (painter)

Waldemar Philippi (born May 18, 1828 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † November 11, 1869 in Berlin ) was a German painter .

Philippi attended the Königsberg art academy from 1848 and traveled to East Prussia . The exhibition catalogs of the Königsberger Kunstverein list works by him between 1850 and 1861. From 1858 to 1860 he sketched in Bavaria. In 1862 he moved to Berlin. He painted genre scenes, portraits and animals, especially sheep. From 1864 many pictures of merino sheep were taken in Mecklenburg , Pomerania and Silesia . In 1868 he took part in the 46th art exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts with animal paintings. In 1668 he also created an altarpiece (Christ on the cross) for the Passow village church . Philippi was also a skilled pianist and in 1857 made instructional drawings of the hand positions of pianists for a piano tutorial by Louis Köhler .
