Waldemar Victorino Barreto (born May 22, 1952 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Victorino, who played in the position of striker and who distinguished himself in particular for his header game, began his career at the age of 17 with Cerro in Montevideo. He later played for the two clubs Progreso and River Plate Montevideo, also based in the Uruguayan capital . In 1979 he joined Nacional Montevideo . That year he was the top scorer in the Primera División with 19 goals . In 1980 he celebrated winning the Uruguayan championship with the Bolsos and was also victorious with his teammates at the Copa Libertadores that year . There Victorino contributed the decisive, because the only goal of the two final matches in the final second leg against SC Internacional . With six goals he was the top scorer in the Copa. This was followed by the victory in the 1980 World Cup against Nottingham Forest . In 1981 the Colombian association Deportivo Cali was added to his career as a further step in his career. In 1982 there was a brief return to Nacional. This was followed by an engagement with the Italian team Cagliari . He then played in Argentina for the clubs Newell's Old Boys and Colón de Santa Fe . From there, his path took him to the Ecuadorian capital Quito to LDU Portoviejo where he again won the title of top scorer in 1987 when he scored 23 goals in the Torneo Ecuatoriano. Further stations were the Venezuelan club Marítimo Caracas and the Peruvian teams Sport Boys and Club Atlético Defensor Lima .

National team

Victorino completed a total of 33 international matches for the Uruguayan national football team between June 9, 1976 and September 13, 1981 , scoring 15 goals. He was part of the successful Uruguayan team at Mundialito and with his three tournament goals he also became the top scorer of the tournament there.
