The Waldschule Degerloch is a grammar school , a secondary school with a Realschulaufsetzer and a primary school in Stuttgart , and the second oldest private school in the city. The school is located in the Stuttgart-Degerloch district , next to the Degerloch forest and below the Stuttgart television tower .

history

Front view today

The forest school Degerloch was founded in 1872 as Mozersches private institute by the elementary school teacher Heinrich Mozer. At that time, the school offerings included a kindergarten, a primary school and a “daughter institute”. After Heinrich Mozer's death in 1903, elementary school was closed. The kindergarten was closed in 1925.

In 1933 the school was officially recognized as a high school; it was renamed "Private Oberschule Mozer". In 1942 it was relocated to Wäschenbeuren due to the war . The pupils were taught in the restaurant "Grüner Baum", where they survived the bombing raid on Wäschenbeuren on April 19, 1945 through very fortunate circumstances. In 1945 35 schoolgirls returned to Stuttgart. School operations were resumed in private apartments, later in changing rooms (Mörikegymnasium, Waldheim Sonnenwinkel, Waldheim Heslach, Ferienheim Altenberg).

In 1952 Marga Rapp took over the school management. The “Association for the Promotion of the Mozerschule” was founded to finance a new school building. In 1953, the Markuswaldheim Degerloch , the current location, was moved into. In 1954 the school was renamed Waldschule Degerloch and run as a Progymnasium (today grades 5-10). In 1961 a new school building was inaugurated (today's 'old building'). Further structural extensions followed later.

Real school education has been offered at the forest school since 1985. In 2000, the first Abitur was passed. In 2007 the Realschule Aufsetzer was approved. In 2018, the regional council approved the establishment of a primary school that offers a special MINT profile and enables supervised schooling for children with type 1 diabetes.

Günther Schäfer, head of the Realschule in the Evangelical School Center Michelbach until 2008 , was a student at the Degerloch Forest School from 1956 to 1960.

Educational courses and educational orientation

At the Degerloch Forest School, the Abitur can be acquired in an eight-year course (grammar school) and a nine-year course (secondary school plus secondary school Aufsetzer). The Realschulaufsetzer was introduced in 2007 to enable students who have attended a Realschule but have not taken French to graduate from high school. The combination of physics and fine arts is unique in Baden-Württemberg. After attending the entry class with more math, English, physics and French lessons, the students take part in the regular course lessons in the grades of the grammar school.

Since 1992, free work according to Maria Montessori has been practiced at the forest school . The forest school is an all-day school .
