The pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard stands on a hill in the center of St. Leonhard in the municipality of Grödig in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in the province of Salzburg . The Roman Catholic branch church and pilgrimage church , consecrated to the patronage of Leonhard von Limoges - incorporated into St. Peter's Abbey - belongs to the Bergheim dean's office in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . history

The church was mentioned in a document in 1407 and belonged to the priesthood of Berchtesgaden until 1803 and to Grödig from 1816. Since 1915 it has been incorporated into St. Peter's Abbey. The tower was added in 1643/1644, the sacristy in 1678. The church was restored in 1948.

Building

The single-nave late Gothic church building with a west tower is surrounded by a cemetery.

The simple nave under a gable roof has a simple late Gothic portal with shoulders and a straight lintel in the south. To the right of the western main portal is a carved figure of St. Leonhard. The retracted choir without a yoke has a 5/8 apse. The four-storey west tower with round-arched sound windows is vaulted on the ground floor and shows the coat of arms of the Wittelsbacher Ferdinand , Archbishop and Elector of Cologne, provost of Berchtesgaden, dated 1644 on the second floor . The double onion helmet was put on in 1738. The three-storey sacristy is attached to the north of the nave. On the western front south of the tower there is a segment arch-shaped niche with a pent roof with a baroque mount of olives and a wrought-iron grille from the first half of the 17th century.

Facility

The high altar

Josef Haslauer (1846–1850) created the neoclassical marble high altar and the side altars using the old paintings and sculptures. The leaf of the high altar shows St. Leonhard as intercessor before Maria with the baby Jesus. Assistant figures are on the left of St. George , on the right St. Martin . The picture on the left side altar shows the Holy Family , that on the right shows the lamentation of Jesus.

Tratz created the pulpit in 1692; the carved figures on the basket represent church teachers and were made by Stangassinger and Pertiller.

The organ was built in 1850.
