Whale ship

Whale ship ("wal-schif / or walleie") was proposed (unsuccessfully) by Philipp von Zesen as a German translation of the foreign word galley . The word seems to be in line with battlefield with Wal in the importance of the fight to be formed. Walleie formed Zesen from Dutch galei by “converting the initial consonant”, as he considered the g , as it occurs in the Romance languages ( Italian , Spanish galea ), to be a falsified German w .
