Walter Auer

Walter Auer (born November 24, 1971 in Villach ) is an Austrian flautist . Since 2003 he has been solo flutist of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic . Since 2006 he has been a member of the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Life

Walter Auer studied in Klagenfurt at the Carinthian State Conservatory with Johannes Kalckreuth, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Michael Martin Kofler and at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic with Andreas Blau and Emmanuel Pahud . Masterclasses with Aurèle Nicolet in Basel shaped him deeply. By working with Nikolaus Harnoncourt , he was encouraged to deal with early music and historical instruments.

As a soloist or chamber musician, Walter Auer has been awarded prizes at important international competitions (soloist: Cremona, chamber music: Bonn, Munich-ARD) and a guest at international festivals and renowned concert series. He also appeared as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic . He can be heard on CD, TV and radio recordings primarily as an orchestral musician, but also as a chamber musician. Master classes and workshops in Europe, Asia and Australia.

In 2015 he was awarded the culture prize of the city of Villach .
