Career
Martin Rummel was born as the son of the lawyer Peter Rummel and grew up in Linz. He attended the elementary school in Linz-Harbach and graduated from the Academic High School in 1992 with distinction . After early harpsichord and piano lessons with Helga Schiff-Riemann (the mother of cellist Heinrich Schiff ), he began playing the cello in 1982 with Wilfried Tachezi at today's Anton Bruckner Private University . At the same time, he continued his harpsichord studies with August Humer at the same institute , but did not complete it. In March 1991 he passed the cellist diploma examination with distinction and was the youngest graduate of the house to date. Afterwards, after brief private studies with Robert Cohen in London , he switched to William Pleeth there . In the second half of the 1990s he studied with Maria Kliegel in Cologne and completed his diploma with distinction and the concert exam at the local music college. He then returned for final studies until his death to William Pleeth in London, whose last pupil he was.

He has studied their works with many important contemporary composers, including Alfred Schnittke and Sofia Gubaidulina .
In recent years Rummel has devoted himself increasingly to the cyclical performance of the solo suites by Johann Sebastian Bach and projects such as his own arrangement of the song cycle Winterreise by Franz Schubert , which he is performing with pianist Norman Shetler and actors such as August Zirner and Xaver Hutter .
