Uwe Grodd

Uwe-Alexander Grodd (born November 29, 1958 in Stuttgart ) is a German conductor and flautist . He is Professor of Music at the University of Auckland and has also been the Music Director of the University Orchestra since 1989 .

Live and act

Born in Stuttgart , Grodd studied linguistics and psychology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz before learning to conduct with Manfred Schreier in Ludwigsburg . He also studied the flute with Werner Peschke . After completing his studies, Grodd continued to devote himself to music, influenced by Maestro Sergiu Celibidache and the flautist and composer Robert Aitken . He took part in international masterclasses and conducting competitions in Lugano and Zlín . Subsequently, Grodd was awarded a graduate scholarship for further study at the Banff Center in Canada .

A short time later, Grodd was internationally active as a musician and gave in 1986 when Queen Elizabeth II visited in front of 250,000 spectators during the Symphony Under the Stars concert in New Zealand , where he later settled. TV appearances in Germany , Italy , Romania , Tahiti and New Zealand followed. For Radio New Zealand, Grodd recorded more than 60 programs and was awarded by the station in 1995. In New Zealand, Grodd was active in the field of orchestral music and took over the musical direction of the Auckland Choral Society , the Radio Nelson Chamber Orchestra, the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestral Summer School at the Aotea Center in Auckland and the St. Matthews Chamber Orchestra. He was also active as a guest conductor and flautist in other orchestras, including the Auckland Philarmonica and the Christchurch Symphony . In January 1998 he was Artistic Director of the International Chamber Music Festival, which takes place annually at Auckland City Hall and the Napier Municipal Theater .

From 1999 he published recordings of works by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf , which he had made with the Failoni Orchestra . As a result, he was included in the selection of the Top 60 Discs of 2000 with recordings of symphonies by Ignaz Josef Pleyel for BBC Music . In 2000 he won the Best Eighteenth Century Orchestral Recording Classical Award at the Cannes Classical Award for his recording of the symphonies by Johann Baptist Vanhal .

In 2003 Grodd was first engaged as a conductor for the Handel Festival in Halle (Saale) . Grodd is Professor of Music at the University of Auckland and works here, among other things, on the recording of all of Ferdinand Ries' works .
