Dimitri Ashkenazy

Dimitri Ashkenazy (born October 8, 1969 in New York , NY ) is a clarinetist living in Switzerland .

Life

In 1978 he moved with his parents from his home country Iceland to Switzerland , where he has lived since then. Since 1991 he has given concerts all over the world, including at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the Sydney Opera House , the Royal Festival Hall in London , the Salzburg Festival , the Rudolfinum in Prague and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He works with well-known orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin , the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic and with well-known artists such as Peter Maxwell Davies , Krzysztof Penderecki , Edita Gruberová , Barbara Bonney and Bernd Glemser .

Ashkenazy has premiered two clarinet concerts: 1994 the Concerto per Clarinetto e Orchestra “Piano Americano” by the Milanese composer Marco Tutino at the Teatro alla Scala and 1997 “Passages” for clarinet and orchestra by Filippo del Corno.

Dimitri Ashkenazy is the son of the pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy .
