Walter Ballmoos

Walter Ballmoos (born July 7, 1911 in Häfelfingen BL; died July 20, 1993 in Frauenfeld TG) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Walter Ballmoos was born into a farming family. From 1928 to 1931 he did a commercial apprenticeship at the Kantonalbank Thurgau in Weinfelden . He then settled entirely in Thurgau and married Luise Schmid in 1944. The couple had two daughters. In the summer of 1993, Walter Ballmoos died of a heart failure in Frauenfeld.

Professional career

After his apprenticeship, Walter Ballmoos worked for the Thurgauer Kantonalbank for two years. In 1933 he switched to the Bauernhilfskasse and the Agricultural Guarantee Cooperative. The well-being of the "little" farmers was always close to his heart. In 1940 he was appointed justice of the peace and debt enforcement officer in Weinfelden. 1954–1959 Walter Ballmoos was managing director of the Thurg. Milk Producers Association. In addition to his subsequent political activity, Ballmoos was on the board of directors of the Thurgau Cooperative for Agricultural Investment Loans and Operating Aid GLIB (formerly Bauernhilfskasse) from 1962 to 1978 and at the Frauenfeld sugar factory from 1961 to 1984.

Political career

Walter Ballmoos was interested in politics and joined the FDP ( Free Democratic Party) Thurgau. In 1940 he moved to the BGB (farmers, trade and citizens' party), today's SVP (Swiss People's Party). In 1946 Walter Ballmoos was elected to the large town council of Weinfelden. From 1953 to 1959 he was also a Thurgau Cantonal Councilor . In 1959 Ballmoos was elected to the government council of the canton of Thurgau, where it remained responsible for internal affairs and economics until 1975. In the period from 1967 to 1971 he also represented Thurgau in the National Council .

As a member of the government of the Canton of Thurgau, he played a key role in the construction of the Frauenfeld sugar factory . Walter Ballmoos was its board member from 1961 to 1984 and chairman of the board from 1968.
