Walter Baselau (born June 6, 1915 in Berlin ; † November 5, 1987 in Langenhagen ) was a German politician ( SPD , CDU ).

Life

After attending primary school, Baselau began an apprenticeship as a typesetter in Osterode / East Prussia . He had been unionized since 1929 and later became a member of the German Association of Book Printers . Between 1935 and 1945 he worked as a soldier and ended his career as an officer in 1945. After the war, his existence in the former eastern areas was destroyed and he settled in the Hanover district as a displaced person. Baselau first worked as a proofreader and later became Managing Director of Letter . He was initially a member of the SPD and was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament in the third to sixth electoral period from May 6, 1955 to June 20, 1970 . He was also in the 7th electoral period from January 24, 1973 to June 20, 1974 in the Lower Saxony state parliament.

Until October 21, 1969 he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group. In October 1969 he resigned from the SPD parliamentary group in protest against the appointment of the Hanover Police President . Between October 22, 1969 and January 22, 1970 he remained non-attached, until he became a guest of the CDU parliamentary group on January 23, 1970 and a member of the CDU parliamentary group from February 17, 1970. This gave the CDU parliamentary group the most seats in the state parliament.

He had been married since 1939 and had two children.
