Walter Bubbe (born September 10, 1890 in Dessau , † March 7, 1970 in Stederdorf near Peine ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Walter Bubbe, the son of the postal secretary August Bubbe, attended the Latin secondary school of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) , where he received his school-leaving certificate on Easter (March 4th) 1909. He then studied classical philology, history and religion at the university there . He spent the summer semester of 1910 at the University of Heidelberg . On October 14, 1913, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . From May 7th to 9th, 1914 he passed the teaching examination in the subjects Latin, Greek, history (first level) and religion (second level) with the grade "good".

After graduating, Bubbe began the seminar year at the teachers' seminar in Halle on August 19, 1914. However, he interrupted it on December 4th of the same year when he was drafted into World War I. On June 4, 1916, Bubbe received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On May 17, 1917, Bubbe resigned and resumed his seminar year. From February 1, 1918, he worked at the Roßleben monastery school , where he was appointed senior teacher on October 1. The next year Bubbe married Annemarie Kolf, with whom he had a son and a daughter. From April 1, 1920, Bubbe was a student councilor in Roßleben, and on December 15, 1936, he was promoted to senior student council.

In 1960 Bubbe moved to Stederdorf near Peine, where he died ten years later.

In addition to the school service, Bubbe dealt intensively with the Greek and Latin literature of antiquity. In his dissertation (1913) he dealt with Greek myths of transformation (metamorphoses). On this subject he wrote several articles for the Realencyclopedia of Classical Antiquity (RE) and for Roscher's Detailed Lexicon of Greek and Roman Mythology . He later wrote collections of sources for school and teaching, edited various translations from Latin for Reclam's universal library and published essays on ancient literature and the history of the Roßleben monastery school.
