Walter Theodor Dick (born November 15, 1943 in Prague ) is a Swiss orthopedist of Austrian - German descent.

Life

Born as the son of the surgeon Walter Dick , Walter Theodor Dick attended schools in Klagenfurt , Cologne and Tübingen . In 1962 he graduated from the Uhland-Gymnasium in Tübingen . He studied medicine at the Universities of Tübingen , Geneva and Vienna . In 1968 he passed the state examination and doctorate in Tübingen . In the further training that followed, he initially focused on general surgery. From 1972 he learned from Martin Allgöwer at the Basel Cantonal Hospital . In 1974 he switched to the orthopedic surgeon Erwin Morscher and graduated in 1977 as a specialist in orthopedics.

In 1978 he was promoted to senior physician at the Orthopedic University Clinic in Basel, and in 1982 Dick took over the management of the children's orthopedic department. In 1984 he received his habilitation at the University of Basel . In 1988, Dick became senior physician in the adult division and deputy chief physician. In 1991 the University of Basel appointed him Associate Professor . In 1995 he succeeded Erwin Morscher as head physician at the Orthopedic University Clinic Basel and full professor for orthopedics at the University of Basel. In 2008 Dick retired or retired.

Dick is married and has three children. He was naturalized in Basel in 1987 .
