Walter Flachsenberg
Walter Flachsenberg (born October 26, 1908 in Mönchengladbach ; † November 3, 1994 ) was a German naval officer , most recently a flotilla admiral in the German Navy .
Life
Walter Flachsenberg was the son of a teacher and, after graduating from high school in 1927, initially studied psychology , pedagogy and sociology .
Reich and Kriegsmarine
In 1928 Flachsenberg joined the Reichsmarine and was trained as a naval officer. When the Second World War broke out , he was Lieutenant Commander of a flak division on Sylt .
In 1940 he signed up for submarine training. This included a patrol for briefing on U 100 under Kapitänleutnant Schepke in September 1940, during which seven ships were sunk within 15 days. After completing his training, Flachsenberg became commander of U 71 on December 14, 1940 . With this boat he undertook six enemy voyages, during which five ships were sunk.
On July 3, 1942, Flachsenberg gave up his command after being promoted to corvette captain two days earlier . For health reasons, he was given a land command as test group leader for submarines at the torpedo test command. In 1944 he became its commander and in 1945 department head in the Torpedo Weapons Office.
post war period
After the end of the war, Flachsenberg resumed his university studies and added the subjects Romance studies, English studies, modern history, German literature, philosophy and physical exercises. He graduated as a state-certified gymnastics and sports teacher and received his doctorate as Dr. phil.
Federal Navy
After the founding of the Federal Navy, Flachsenberg returned to active service and was initially a consultant, later as captain at sea, sub-department head for personnel policy issues and internal leadership in the naval command staff . On June 1, 1962, he became commander of the Naval Artillery School and on April 1, 1965, head of the naval headquarters. On March 1, 1966, he took over as a flotilla admiral, the new post of stage manager of the education and training system of the Navy in the Naval Office . In this function, the following larger training institutions were subordinate to him:
- Mürwik Naval School
- Naval Sergeant School
- Naval training regiment with four naval training battalions
- Command of the training ships
After this activity, Flachsenberg retired.
