Walter Forde

Walter Forde (born April 21, 1896 in Bradford , Yorkshire , England as Thomas Seymour , † January 7, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) was a British film director , screenwriter , actor , film editor and film producer who lived mainly in England and there numerous Staged movies, including Chu-Chin-Chow , The Singing Land , The Weavers of Bankdam and Tolle Tage .

Life

Walter Forde, born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1896 as Thomas Seymour, began his show business career on the stage of the music halls in the north of England . In 1920 he first appeared in the film business as a screenwriter and actor in a series of two-role comedies. During the silent film era , he starred in a number of popular slapstick comedies.

Walter Forde spent some time in Hollywood in the early 1920s . However, since his career there received no decisive impetus, he returned to England in 1925. From 1928 he worked as a director for the Nettlefold Film Studios, later also for the large British film production company Gainsborough. Forde was mainly active as a director and screenwriter in a variety of genres, where he mainly staged comedies, but also some dramas and occasionally thrillers or mystery films.

In 1947 he directed the lavish British film adaptation of The Weavers of Bankdam with Anne Crawford , Dennis Price and Linden Travers based on the novel The Crowthers of Bankdam by Thomas Armstrong. Walter Forde's last directorial work was the opulent costume film parody Tolle Tage in 1949, starring Sid Field and Margaret Lockwood .

Walter Forde wrote numerous scripts in his career, worked as an actor and editor, produced and directed over 50 films himself. He has worked as a screenwriter in 20 productions and has appeared as an actor in more than 20 films.

On January 7, 1984, he died in his later adopted home, Los Angeles, California, at the age of 87.
