Walter Gunz

Walter Gunz (born July 19, 1946 in Munich ) is a German entrepreneur . He is a co-founder of the Media Markt chain.

Life

Gunz was raised by his grandmother after his parents divorced and studied philosophy in Munich . During his studies, he applied to Karstadt and soon became “ Head of Consumer Electronics ”, and at the end of the 1970s also head of department.

In 1979 Gunz founded the electronics retailer Media Markt in Munich with Leopold Stiefel , Helga and Erich Kellerhals . For example, as managing director of Media-Saturn Beteiligungsges mbH , Gunz created the slogan: “ I'm not stupid ”.

After his departure in 1999 and the sale of his shares, he was a multiple millionaire and in 2010 had assets of 550 million euros. In 2000 Gunz sold the last shares in his company. He then worked as a freelance consultant for software companies and as CEO of Bild.T-Online AG. From 2005 to 2008 he was managing director of Axel Springer E-Commerce GmbH . In 2009 he founded the consulting company Walter Gunz Strategy Consultants . In 2009 and 2010 he worked as a consultant for the Media Markt / Saturn group. In November 2013 he presented his book I wasn't stupid in Berlin .

Walter Gunz now lives alternately in Rottach-Egern on the Tegernsee and in Marrakech ( Morocco ).

According to the German Manager Magazine, Walter Gunz has assets of around 600 million euros (as of 2013). This puts him 199th on the list of the 500 richest Germans .
