Walter Hinghaus

Walter Hinghaus (* 1941 in Neubrandenburg ) is a qualified photographer and co-founder of MV-Foto eV in Schwerin .

Life

In 1955 Hinghaus began an apprenticeship as a machinist in Schwerin and worked in this profession until 1962. From 1962 to 1967 he worked as a stage manager at the Parchim Theater. His first photographs were taken on the side. From 1967 to 1986 he worked as a theater photographer in Frankfurt (Oder) and Meiningen . In the meantime, he completed an external course in 1976 at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig .

In 1974 he was elected to the board of the Society for Photography . In 1992 Walter Hinghaus was one of the founders of MV-Foto eV in Schwerin. The aim of the association is to promote photography, especially artistic photography, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

For decades, Hinghaus has compiled an extensive photographic collection on the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , in particular through the “Photographic Documentation of Urban and Village Centers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania” project started in 1994. In 2001, together with Ralf Wendt, he received the culture award of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (sponsorship award) for his artistic work as a photographer and his commitment to promoting young people interested in photography . In this context, the Ministry of Culture praised him as “our country's ambassador”.
