Live and act
Walter Huser began his training as a sculptor with Eduard Spörri's father ; later he became his brother-in-law.
Huser comes from a middle-class family with thirteen siblings. His father ran a sawmill. Walter Huser's urge for creative work was recognized early on and encouraged by the Baden drawing teacher and rector of the crafts school Eugen Märchy (1876–1944). In addition to Huser, Eduard Spörri and Heiny Widmer (1927–1984) were among his students .
After his apprenticeship, Huser made several trips abroad, including 1925/1926 to Paris, Lucerne and Provence, and later to Florence and Rome. In 1928 Huser obtained a visa for Canada , but then stayed in Europe. At the age of twenty-four he returned to the apprenticeship workshop as a journeyman, married Anna, the daughter of his first teacher, in 1933, and set up his household. At first he continued to earn his living by making tombs. During this time Huser completed his techniques at the Wabel Art Academy in Zurich .
Like Spörri, Huser was committed to the model . It was not until 1944, at the age of forty, that he set up his own workshop in Bifangstrasse and in the years that followed created predominantly female nudes, initially mostly small works such as sculptures, portrait heads, reliefs and sacred images, from 1950 also large-scale sculptures, such as a girl figure on a ball which is now in the Volksgarten of the Kunsthaus Glarus . Further works are the seated nude , now in Basel, and ballet dancer .
The artist's studio in Wettingen at Bifangstrasse 15 is open to the public, where some of the works are exhibited. Other works can be found in the neighboring Gluri-Suter-Huus .
