Walter Jon Williams
Walter Jon Williams (born October 15, 1953 in Minnesota ) is an American writer specializing in science fiction .
Life
Williams graduated from the University of New Mexico and lives near San José. His first books translated into German were Hardware ( Hardwired ) and The Voice of the Whirlwinds ( The Voice of the Whirlwind ). With these works he was initially classified in the sub-genre cyberpunk , although later he hardly took up cyberpunk topics. His Drake Maijstral series was more of a futuristic cloak-and-sword story, Aristoi played in a feudal society shaped by nanotechnology. Williams also wrote novels in the Star Wars universe. He was nominated several times for the Hugo and the Nebula Award , he won the Nebula for his short stories Daddy's World (2000) and The Green Leopard Plague (2004). In 1997 he received the Sidewise Award for his short story Foreign Devils . His Space Opera Dread Empire's Fall was released in 2002-2005 and became an international bestseller. The German first edition was published in 2010 in three volumes.
