Walter Kölbl (* 1948 in Hard ) is an Austrian sculptor and architect .

Life

Walter Kölbl was born in Hard in Vorarlberg in 1948 . From 1969 to 1975 he studied sculpture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Hans Knesl and Wander Bertoni . He then completed a second degree in metal design with Carl Auböck until 1980 . He completed his training with a one-year scholarship at the Austrian cultural institute in Rome .

1980 to 1986 he was a university assistant at the Institute for Plastic Design and Modeling at the Technical University of Vienna . For him, this time was "a connection between [...] an interest in architecture and [...] experience as a sculptor". During his time at the Vienna University of Technology, he received a state scholarship and took part in the pilot project "Scientists found companies" by the Federal Ministry of Science and Research. From 1987, Walter Kölbl worked as a freelance sculptor in the federal sculpture studios in Vienna's Krieau and in Vorarlberg. The first solo exhibitions in the Palais Thurn & Taxis in Bregenz and the Vienna Secession in Vienna took place in the early days . On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the summer exhibition of the state capital Bregenz 2018 was dedicated to the artist.
