Walter Kamper

Walter Kamper (born October 6, 1931 in Vienna , † September 26, 2015 in Graz ) was an Austrian pianist.

Life

Kamper studied at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts with Richard Hauser and at the Berlin State University for Music and Performing Arts with Helmut Roloff . He made his debut as a concert pianist in Vienna in 1951. From 1963 until his retirement in 2000 he taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . With Michael Schnitzler and Walther Schulz he founded the Haydn Trio in 1964 . In 1979 he was appointed full professor for piano.

Kamper was the winner of numerous international competitions, including the Concours International Genève 1952 and Concours International Reine Elisabeth Bruxelles 1960 . In 1996 he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class .
