Walter Knissel

Walter Knissel (born December 13, 1934 in Landstuhl ; † March 20, 2018 in Bad Gandersheim ) was a German professor of mining and former rector of the Clausthal University of Technology .

Life

Walter Knissel was born as the son of the Landstuhl Sparkasse employee and later Mayor of Homburg Jakob Knissel and Karolina Knissel, née. Krück, born. After graduating from high school, he began studying mining at RWTH Aachen University in the 1956 summer semester . In the same semester he joined the Corps Saxonia-Berlin in Aachen. In 1961 he passed the diploma exam. In 1964 he received his doctorate degree at RWTH Aachen University with a dissertation on the topic: Theoretical and experimental investigation of the physical processes in blower lines . PhD.

From his practical experience as operations director of the Sophia-Jacoba colliery in Hückelhoven, he received a call to the Chair of Mining Process and Operations Management at the Institute for Mining at the Clausthal University of Technology in 1974. From 1987 to 1989 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy. Between 1991 and 1993 he was Vice Rector and Rector of Clausthal University of Technology. From 1980 to 2003 he was in charge of coordinating the exchange in research and teaching with the Fuxin Mining College , now the Liaoning Technical University. In 2003 Walter Knissel retired.

Walter Knissel's research focused on the areas of underground mineral extraction, shaft and cavity construction, waste disposal mining and computer-aided mining planning.

He was particularly interested in the historical Upper Harz mining and the Upper Harz water shelf .

Awards

  • On November 5, 1964, Walter Knissel received the Borchers badge from RWTH Aachen University.
  • In 1992 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Miskolc .
  • Walter Knissel was an honorary professor at Liaoning Technical University.
