Walter Krysmann

Walter Krysmann (born September 6, 1929 in Skalung ; † August 30, 1984 ) was a German officer and major general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR .

Life

The son of a working-class family began an apprenticeship as a druggist after attending primary school. In the last days of the war in 1945, the 15-year-old was the last soldier of the Wehrmacht . He was used there as an anti-aircraft helper .

In 1945 he became a member of the KPD , in 1946 of the FDJ and the SED . After he spent the first post-war years as an unskilled worker, passenger and later a driver in the Riesa steel and rolling mill, he joined the ranks of the German People's Police on his 20th birthday on September 6, 1949 . From 1949 to 1951 he graduated from the People's Police School in Berlin-Treptow. From 1951 to 1952 he then served in several VP readiness as an officer in Leipzig, Potsdam and Grossenhain.

Walter Krysmann was one of the first officers of the Barracked People's Police (KVP) who began a four-year course in 1952 at the Frunze Military Academy of the Soviet Armed Forces in Moscow. After completing his studies, he was employed as deputy chief of staff of the 1st Mot Rifle Division of the NVA. From 1958 to 1959 he was head of the operational sub-department of this division in Potsdam. From 1960 to 1963 he was, also in the 1st MSD, deployed as deputy commander and chief of staff.

From 1963 to 1966, Colonel Krysmann was now in command of this division. From 1966 to 1968 a second degree followed in the USSR, this time at the Academy of the General Staff of the Soviet Armed Forces "Voroshilov" . After completion, he was again deployed as commander of a division.

As division commander of the 9th PD , Krysmann was appointed major general on October 7, 1969 by the chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council , Walter Ulbricht . In 1973 Walter Krysmann was entrusted with the position of Deputy Chief of Military District III ( Leipzig ) and Chief Training Officer. In 1974 he was employed as deputy head of the military district V ( Neubrandenburg ) and chief of staff.

From 1977 to 1984 Krysmann held the post of 1st deputy head of the military academy "Friedrich Engels" in Dresden. At the same time he was chairman of the Army Sports Association (ASG) of the military academy.
