Walter Kupferschmidt

Walter Kupferschmidt (born March 15, 1931 in Einsiedel , Reichenberg district, Czechoslovakia ; † May 1, 2019 ) was a German economist and university professor . From 1972 to 1979, Kupferschmidt was rector of the Berlin School of Economics (HfÖ).

biography

Walter Kupferschmidt attended the school in Habartov . After the end of the Second World War, he came to Bitterfeld and trained as a chemical laboratory assistant. After joining the SED in 1949, he pursued a career in foreign trade in the GDR up to the position of General Director of German Internal and External Trade Chemical Export / Import.

In 1965, Kupferschmidt graduated with a degree in economics specializing in foreign trade and completed a dissertation. In 1969 he was appointed full professor for “Socialist Foreign Trade” at the HfÖ. In addition, he served there in 1971 as 1st Vice Rector and from 1972 to 1979 as Rector.

After the fall of the Wall in the GDR in 1990, Kupferschmidt retired due to health reasons.

His grave is in the Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery .
