Walter Nones
Walter Nones (born November 5, 1971 in Cavalese , Trentino ; † October 3, 2010 at Cho Oyu , Nepal ) was an Italian extreme mountaineer and mountain guide .
Life
Nones was born in Cavalese and grew up in Sover in the Cembra Valley . He started mountaineering as a child.
In 2004 Nones successfully climbed the K2 with Karl Unterkircher , Silvio Mondinelli , Ugo Giacomelli and Michele Compagnoni . On the descent from the summit, Mondinelli and Nones also helped two troubled Spanish mountaineers to safely reach the camp.
Nones became known to a wider public in 2008 when his mountain companion Karl Unterkircher had a fatal accident on Nanga Parbat . Together with Simon Kehrer , they had tried to reach the summit via a new route in the Rakhiot Wall . After Unterkircher's fatal fall into a crevice, Nones and Kehrer continued the ascent in pairs, as it was not possible to get out of the wall. In the course of the later descent, they were recovered by helicopter. Nones published the experiences there in 2010 together with Kehrer in the book Teufelswand. As Nones 2010 together with Giovanni Macaluso and Manuel Nocker the Cho Oyu via a new route on the South West Wall tried to board, he was killed.
Nones was a trained mountain guide and instructor in Alpinzentrum the Carabinieri in Selva in Val Gardena . He was married and had two sons, the family lives in Wolkenstein.
Mountaineering achievements
- 1995 Lobuche Peak Ost (6119 m), Nepal, development of a new rock route with difficulty UIAA VII
- 2006 Mount Genyen (6240 m), China, first ascent of the north face in alpine style
- 2008 Chongra Peak North (6840 m), Pakistan, first ascent of the west ridge in alpine style
In addition, Nones also opened climbing routes with difficulty levels UIAA VII and VIII in the Italian Alps.
