Walter Oehry

Walter Oehry (born February 18, 1926 in Mauren ; † September 4, 2014 there ) was a Liechtenstein politician ( VU ).

biography

After completing his studies, Oehry worked at the Ivo Beck law firm in Vaduz . In 1961 he worked for Hilti AG and headed the legal department there. He worked for the company until he retired.

Oehry was party secretary of the Patriotic Union from 1957 to 1961. From 1958 to 1962 he was the chief editor in charge of the Liechtenstein Fatherland . From 1971 to 1986 he belonged to a total of three successive governments under Alfred Hilbe (VU), Walter Kieber (FBP) and Hans Brunhart (VU), first for the youth and sport department, later for the agriculture department. From 1989 to 1993 he was a member of the Liechtenstein Parliament . In February 1978 he had already been elected to the state parliament once, but left after he was nominated again as a councilor on April 18, 1978 by the Fatherland Union. His party colleague Werner Gstöhl moved up for him in the state parliament. As a member of parliament, Oehry acted as head of the Liechtenstein delegation to the Council of Europe . Furthermore, he was President of the Banking Commission, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Liechtenstein Power Plants and, until his election to the Government Council, a judge at the Administrative Complaints Board.

For his political commitment he was awarded the title of Princely Judicial Councilor. He was an honorary member of the Fatherland Union and the Liechtenstein hunters' association. In the latter, Oehry, who had been a passionate hunter since his student days, held the office of Vice President for 20 years and wrote leading articles for the Swiss hunting magazine Hege und Pflege . In 1986 he received the DJV Culture Prize of the German Hunting Association . He died on September 4, 2014 after a long illness at the age of 88.
