Walter Pérez (athlete)

Walter Pérez , full name Walter Pérez Soto , (born November 1, 1924 in Montevideo , † December 30, 2009 in Lima ) was a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

The 1.73 m tall Pérez was active in the running competitions on the sprint courses and set several Uruguayan records . At the South American Championships in Santiago in 1943 and in Montevideo in 1945 , he won silver on the 100-meter course . At the South American Championships in 1947 he was a runner in the 4 x 100 meter relay , which won silver. He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1948 Olympic Games in London . Over 100 meters, 200 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay, he was eliminated in the heats. In addition, he won the unofficial South American Championships in 1950 on both the 100-meter and the 200-meter course.

After his active career, he worked at the Pan American Games in San Juan in 1979 and at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as Chef de Mission of the Uruguayan delegation.
