Life

After primary school and a year at an agricultural vocational school, Rudersdorf attended high school in Limburg from 1941 to 1948 . However, this time at the grammar school was severely affected by the war. In February 1944, Rudersdorf was called up to the Reich Labor Service and then to the infantry. After being wounded near Kaminken (in today's Lithuania) in early 1945 and a few months in English captivity, the high school student returned to school. After graduating from high school, Rudersdorf studied English and Geography in Frankfurt and was often to be found in the History, German Linguistics and Romance Studies faculties. He completed his legal clerkship for teaching in Hadamar and Wiesbaden and then got a permanent position at the Wöhlerschule in Frankfurt am Main, where he was promoted to senior student council in 1966.

In 1967 his book "Im Schatten der Burg Ellar" was published, a detailed account of the history of Ellar from the earliest times. Rudersdorf's lecture series had been under this title since 1948, the beginning of which was a historical slide lecture in the Ellarer house of the Dernbacher sisters and which then regularly attracted numerous visitors from the entire region. He gave the last lecture in this series in March 2008, again in the Ellar Sisters' House. As early as 1998, Rudersdorf entered the Guinness Book of Records with its large number of lectures on cultural history .

Under the guidance of Rudersdorf, the Ellar Local History Museum was built in 1992 in the Ludwig-Bös-Haus, the former Ellar school building on Hintermeilinger Strasse. He had collected the exhibits in his home for many years. Between 2002 and 2005 the museum was expanded.

Other initiatives by Rudersdorf concerned the restoration and preservation of old buildings in Ellar, such as the medieval castle ruins , the remains of the old city wall and city gate, a draw well and the historic forge. He also campaigned for the establishment of a nature reserve around the little Heidenhäuschen south of Ellar .

In September 2011, at the age of 85, Rudersdorf handed over his collection of historical materials to the community of Waldbrunn. The collection also includes an extensive personal archive with more than 8,500 own publications on all topics related to the history of the Ellar area, plus around 35,000 slides set to music, as well as a cultural history library, which includes numerous village chronicles, specialist journals, festival journals and encyclopedias. The Ellar Culture and History Association began electronically recording the associated written documents in 2012.

The village chronicles of the Waldbrunn districts have always been of particular concern to Walter Rudersdorf. A village chronicle of Waldbrunn-Hausen has been in book form since 1998 . Numerous publications about Waldbrunn-Fussingen in the official gazette "Waldbrunner Nachrichten" followed. This was followed by a series of more than 100 articles on the history of the Waldbrunn district of Hintermeilingen , which should come to an end in 2012. Since 2012 - again in the "Waldbrunner Nachrichten" - an article series about the history of Waldbrunn-Lahr has been published .

In 2012 Rudersdorf presented the Ellar School Chronicle, for which he had transferred around 1000 original pages from the old German manuscript into Latin script.
