Walter Schönholzer

Walter Schönholzer (born November 20, 1965 in Neukirch an der Thur ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP.The Liberals ). Since June 1, 2016, he has been the Government Councilor of the Canton of Thurgau and Head of the Department of Home Affairs and Economics.

biography

Walter Schönholzer lives in Neukirch an der Thur. He is a citizen of Kradolf-Schönenberg (TG) and Sulgen TG . He is married to Anna Schönholzer-Bösch and has four children.

education and profession

After compulsory schooling in the canton of Thurgau, Walter Schönholzer completed a commercial apprenticeship. A longer language stay in Paris rounded off this training period. From 1987 to 2006 he worked in various functions at Lista AG in Erlen, most recently as Sales Manager Export and Sales Support.

Political activity

At the same time he started his political career and was councilor in Kradolf-Schönenberg from 1996 to 2006 and mayor of Kradolf-Schönenberg from 2006 to 2016. He was a member of the Thurgau Cantonal Council from 2009 until his election to the government council in 2016. At the same time, he was President of the Central Thurgau Regional Planning Group from 2011 to 2015, a member of the Spatial Planning Commission from 2012 to 2016 and President of the FDP, the Liberal Thurgau, from 2013 to 2016.

In 2016 he was elected to the government council and took over the department of home affairs and economics.
