Walter Schmidt (politician, 1898)

Walter Schmidt (born July 20, 1898 in Halle / Saale ; † November 11, 1982 in Göttingen ) was a German politician ( NSDAP / CDU ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

After attending secondary school, Schmidt began a career as an administrative officer in the higher service. In the First World War he was a combatant from 1916 to 1918, then an officer in the reserve. He studied at two administrative academies and entered the higher administrative service in 1929 as department director of the Halle AG works . In addition, he took over the management of a company health insurance fund and a housing association, and he acted as an authorized representative in a company for remote gas supply.

From 1924 to 1929 he was a city councilor for the German National Freedom Movement in Halle. During the time of National Socialism he joined the NSDAP ( membership number 4.043.516).

In 1939 he was seconded to the head of civil administration as city and housing director . In 1942 he became district head of the NSDAP in Litzmannstadt ( Łódź ) occupied by the Wehrmacht , where he was also active as a senior administrative councilor.

After the end of the war he worked for the government in Merseburg , and in January 1949 he was appointed director of the administration school and the administration seminar in Oldenburg.

Schmidt was active in various organizations of the civil service movement in the years up to 1933 and after 1956, where he assumed leading positions. He was state chairman in the German Association of Officials in Lower Saxony and state chairman in the Association of German Municipal Officials . He was also a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Beamtenversicherung in Berlin and a member of the NDR Broadcasting Council in Hamburg. For his work he was awarded the Cross of Merit First Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

From May 6, 1955 to June 5, 1967 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament (3rd to 5th electoral term), where he chaired the special committee for civil service issues from November 26, 1956 to May 5, 1959.
