Walter Schopf

Walter Schopf (born November 23, 1956 in Steyr , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian trade unionist, politician ( SPÖ ). From 2002 to 2017 he was an intermittent member of the National Council .

education and profession

Walter Schopf attended compulsory school from 1963 to 1972 and then learned to be a machinist by 1976. Schopf worked as a machine fitter in the Steyr works until 1977 and did his community service at the BBRZ-Linz from 1977 to 1978. From 1978 to 1979 he attended the social academy of the chamber for workers and employees and from 1979 was secretary of the metal-mining-energy union . From 1988 he was state secretary of the metal-textile-food trade union for Upper Austria. On August 1, 2018, Michael Seemayer succeeded him as state secretary of the PRO-GE union .

politics

Walter Schopf has been Deputy Chairman of the ÖGB -Landesexekutive Oberösterreich since 2001 and a member of the plenary assembly of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Upper Austria.

Walter Schopf was a member of the National Council from December 20, 2002 to October 28, 2013. He has been a member again since September 2, 2014, as he took over the mandate of the late Barbara Prammer . This was preceded by an internal party discussion, as the women's quota prescribed by the SPÖ was not adhered to. The party rebel Sonja Ablinger , who was placed on the list behind Schopf, should have come to the train according to the opinion of the SP women. The Mayor of Linz, Klaus Luger , said that it had been suggested that both Schopf and Ablinger waive their mandate claims and instead Fiona Kaiser move up. But Ablinger refused.

Walter Schopf is married and has two sons.
