Walter Weiss (born November 27, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian philosopher , geographer , pedagogue , publisher and author of non-fiction and fiction.

Life

Walter Weiss attended elementary school and high school in Floridsdorf , where he graduated in 1960. He studied philosophy , psychology , education and geography in Vienna. In 1968 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna . In 1972 he obtained a master's degree in natural sciences, also from the University of Vienna. After years of work as a freelance writer and world traveler, he took up teaching at a Viennese grammar school in 1973, where he taught geography and economics, psychology and philosophy for 28 years. In addition, he worked as an adult educator for around 40 years , mainly at the Urania in Vienna , where he mainly gave lectures on philosophy. Later he taught “Philosophy of Technology” as the first lecturer for philosophy at the Vienna University of Technology for five years . Since 2010, it bears the professional title of professor.

As a philosopher he feels obliged to constructivist , atheistic and monistic thinking. Weiss is a member of the Austrian writers ' and publishers' associations as well as the international PEN club . In 1991 he founded the Edition Va Bene publishing house .

Publications

Weiss has published around 80 books so far. At the beginning he wrote books for young people, some of which were awarded literary prizes. As a freelancer for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ( ORF ) and partly on its behalf, he produced television films and radio programs about the countries he visited. At the same time, non-fiction books and illustrated books with own photos were created. Political, economically oriented and religiously critical titles followed. His work as a high school teacher resulted in psychological and philosophical works. He also publishes in the "Wissenschaftliche Nachrichten" (published twice a year) of the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture (nature) philosophical specialist articles and in various media analyzes on the financial sector . He also went public as an author of essays on natural philosophy . Weiss also occasionally writes for the left-wing Catholic magazine Kirche In and for the German magazine “zeitgeist” and its online edition “zeitgeist online”.
