Walter Wenzel

Walter Wenzel (born January 20, 1929 in Hermsdorf , Leitmeritz district) is a German name researcher and emeritus professor for Slavic language history and name research at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Wenzel studied Slavic and English and worked as a lecturer for Russian. In 1960 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. The dissertation B ( habilitation ) took place in 1979 at the University of Leipzig, where he became professor in 1990. His main research area is Slavic, especially Sorbian place names and personal names , which he continues to study after his retirement .
