Walter Wodak

Walter Wodak (born November 22, 1908 in Vienna ; † February 25, 1974 there ) was an Austrian diplomat .

Life

Walter Wodak received his doctorate in law from the University of Vienna in 1933 and joined the KPÖ . After working in the insurance industry, he fled to Great Britain in 1938. After joining the Austrian Foreign Service, he worked in London from 1946 to 1950 and in Paris from 1951 to 1953 . From 1953 to 1959 he represented Austria as envoy and later as ambassador in Belgrade . From 1959 to 1962 he was political director and from 1963 to 1964 head of the administrative section in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . From 1964 to 1970 he was ambassador to Moscow and then, until his sudden death, general secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His daughter Ruth Wodak was a professor at Lancaster University and recipient of the 1996 Wittgenstein Prize .
