The Walter Pond (also: "Walther Pond") is a small artificial pond in Trautheim , district of the municipality Mühltal in Darmstadt-Dieburg in Hesse .
geography
The Waltersteich is located on the western edge of Trautheim , between Darmstadt-Eberstadt and Mühltal , at the foot of the "Lindenberg", in the forest "Staatsforst Seeheim-Jugenheim" below the western slope of the "Lindenberg". The pond is geologically in the northern Odenwald in the granite area of the Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald . The landscape corresponds to the typical hilly landscape of the Vorderen Odenwald .
The Waltersteich is approx. 50 m long and approx. 20 m wide. On the western edge of the pond, there is a dam with passage of concrete . The wall is approx. 20 m long and approx. 2 m high. The dam wall is demolished on the west side .
A few meters behind the Waltersteich, separated by an earth dam with a passage, there is a second pond of approximately the same size, which is also called Waltersteich. On the north-eastern edge of this pond there is the less productive "Waltersteichquelle".
An amphibian reserve is located on the eastern edge of the two ponds. To the west of the dam there is a swamp-like forest and meadow area.
The two Walter ponds are drained by the raven raft .
fauna
Various animal species live on the area; including ducks , bats , gray wagtails , hawks , kites , pond newts , honey buzzards and wild geese . Numerous native fish species animate the pond.

The Waltersteiche are in the middle of a mixed forest .
