Lists on the subject |
The Walther CP 88 is a sports and training pistol that fires projectiles using compressed CO 2 , based on the principle of a compressed air weapon . The design of the weapon is borrowed from the popular Walther P88 police weapon . It is made by Umarex .

The CO 2 is in a gas cartridge with a content of 12 grams, which is inserted into the handle of the weapon. As with most gas-powered weapons, 4.5 mm pellets are fired and stored in an 8-shot drum. For the so-called plinking (for example shooting at cans) steel core pellets can also be used, which are offered by some manufacturers in the required maximum length. In order to ensure that the drum functions properly, a maximum bullet length of 6.9 mm (according to the manufacturer's information 6.5 mm) is possible, as the height of the drum is 7 mm. The exit speed of standard diabolos with a newly inserted CO 2 cartridge is given as 120 m / s (" Competition" with 130 m / s). This is continuously reduced because the gas pressure drops after each shot is fired. This must be taken into account in particular with shots in rapid succession, because this leads to a temperature drop in the weapon itself as well as in the CO 2 cartridge, which reduces the muzzle velocity. At normal room temperatures , one CO 2 cartridge should be able to fire around 50 shots without affecting the accuracy of the hit. The weapon shoots precisely at a distance of up to about 20 m. Both the single-action and the double-action system can be used as a trigger . The drum is invisible inside the weapon, since the prototype is a semi-automatic weapon with a rod magazine and not a revolver . The magazine makes it possible to carry out the rapid fire discipline in shooting competitions , in which the shooter has to fire a defined number of shots in quick succession.
Since the CP 88 is very professional equipped, this has a hand-operated firing pin fuse, a trigger safety with an open shutter and an automatic fall arrest.
Like its model, the pistol is made of metal and weighs 1040 g, in the " Competition" version 1150 g. When loaded and with the silencer attached, up to 1300 g or more can be achieved. This high degree of similarity with the "sharp" P88 offers the marksman a considerable degree of reality for training shooting.
The weapon can with the help of an adapter with a silencer of a third party to be equipped. The noise level is reduced from almost 80 decibels to around 70 decibels , depending on the damper . It must be taken into account that the silencer, depending on the type, means that target acquisition is no longer possible through the attached open sights . In this case, the use of an adapter rail would be a red dot sight worth considering. A laterally adjustable, open visor is pre-assembled as standard. This can be replaced by a height-adjustable one that is offered as a special accessory. Because the CP 88 has an interchangeable barrel system, it is feasible to replace the attached 4 ″ barrel with a 6 ″ barrel , which theoretically leads to even greater accuracy of the shot results. The name of the weapon, which is also available from the factory with a longer barrel, is then CP 88 “ Competition ”.
The CP 88 is available in the versions "polished chrome " , " nickel " and "black burnished ". In addition to plastic grips, the weapon can also be equipped with wooden grips.
Legal
Since the CP 88 has an energy of less than 7.5 joules , it can be freely acquired in Germany from the age of 18 and without a gun license. To wear it in public , however, a gun license would be required, which, however, is in principle not issued for air guns. The so-called small gun license , which in Germany authorizes the use of so-called alarm guns, irritant and signal weapons , is not sufficient to carry air guns . On the other hand, it is permitted to transport the weapon that is not ready to fire and not ready to be accessed from one location to another, provided that the weapon is transported for a reasonable purpose or in connection therewith. (Weapons Act §12 Paragraph 3 (2)). The weapon must be unloaded and safely stowed away. If ammunition is to be transported at the same time as the weapon , both must be housed separately from one another.
In Germany, the purchase and use of a silencer on free weapons is permitted from the age of 18 even without a weapon possession card.
The projectiles for compressed air guns are not subject to any gun regulations.
A license to shoot with a compressed air weapon with an energy of less than 7.5 joules is not required for those who shoot in a shooting range . Shooting outside of shooting ranges and beyond is only permitted by the owner of the domiciliary right or with his consent in pacified property , provided the projectiles do not leave the property. (Weapons Act §12 Paragraph 4 (1)). Outside of your own house, garden, property, etc. you may not shoot without a permit.
The minimum age for shooting with air guns in shooting sports in Germany is 12 years, with special permits from 10 years. However, this age only applies to shooting in a supervised club. In the private area, young people under the age of 12 are prohibited from handling air guns.
In Austria and Switzerland it is forbidden to install a silencer.
