Walther Jänecke

Walther Jänecke (also: Walter Jänecke or Walther HE Jänecke ; * July 8, 1888 in Hanover ; † October 20, 1965 Walchensee (Kochel am See) ) was a German newspaper publisher and politician.

Life

After graduating from high school in Hanover, Walther Jänecke studied law at the universities of Grenoble, Freiburg, Göttingen and Heidelberg. In 1907 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Freiburg . In 1912 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. He then completed commercial training in banking in Hildesheim and London. During the First World War he took part as a first lieutenant in the reserve in Dragoon Regiment No. 22 and as a battalion adjutant in and adjutant of the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 250. He received the Iron Cross II and I class as well as Baden, Hessian and Austrian medals as awards.

After the end of the war, Jänecke took over the publishing management of the Hannoversche Kurier in 1918 . In 1922 he founded the Walter Jänecke KG publishing company . In 1926 he became a board member and later deputy head of the Association of German Newspaper Publishers and the Newspaper Publishers Association of Northwest Germany. He was a member of the covenant for the renewal of the empire . As a member of the DVP , he was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Hanover from 1929 to 1932 and from 1930 to 1933 deputy representative of the Province of Hanover to the Reich Council . In 1933 he was forced to resign from all of his offices. From 1939 to 1944 he took part in the Second World War as Rittmeister of the Reserve at the High Command of the Wehrmacht in the foreign department.

In 1949 Jänecke was elected chairman of the Working Group for Press Issues , which later became the Association of German Newspaper Publishers . From 1954 to 1960 he was an authorized representative of the Presidium of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers . He was a member of the executive committee of the advertising industry's central committee. From 1951 to 1957 he was a member of the supervisory board of the German Press Agency .
